Author Guidelines
Esoteris of Islamic Studies is a biannual peer-reviewed journal published in June and December. We welcome submissions of original research articles, literature reviews, and conceptual papers focusing on qualitative studies in Islamic sciences. Topics may include, but are not limited to: Islamic thought, Sufism, Qur’anic and Hadith studies, Islamic philosophy, Islamic education, history of Islamic civilization, da'wah, and contemporary socio-cultural issues from esoteric and theoretical perspectives.
Submission Requirements
- Articles must be original and have not been previously published or submitted elsewhere for publication.
- All manuscripts must pass a plagiarism check with a maximum similarity index of 20% . Articles exceeding this threshold will be returned. Proof of the plagiarism check can be sent to: lektur@gmail.com
- Manuscripts should be between 6,000–10,000 words , written in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) format, using Times New Roman 12 pt font , 1.5 spacing , and A4 paper size .
Peer Review Process
Submitted articles will undergo a peer-review process by subject experts. The editorial board reserves the right to make editorial adjustments for clarity and consistency without altering the substance of the article.
Article Structure
Articles should follow this structure:
- Title : Concise and informative, written in English using bold capital letters (max. 14 words).
- Author Information : Full name(s) (without academic titles), institutional affiliation(s), and email address(es). For multiple authors, separate names with commas. Only one corresponding email should be provided.
- Abstract : A brief summary (150–250 words) in both English and Bahasa Indonesia , highlighting the background, research gap, methodology, key findings, significance, and implications.
- Keywords : 3–5 italicized terms that reflect the core themes of the article.
- Introduction : Background, literature review, problem statement or research objectives, methodology (research setting, participants, time, location, data collection, and analysis methods). Include a paragraph identifying previous research and stating the novelty or current state of the study.
- Findings and Discussion : Present results and relate them to theories or concepts introduced in the Introduction. Use Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (Full Note) for citations.
- Conclusion : Summarize the study's objective and key findings. Implications and suggestions for future research may also be included.
- Acknowledgement (optional) : Recognize individuals or institutions that contributed significantly to the preparation of the manuscript (e.g., funders, advisors, assistants).
- References : Must include at least 30 primary sources , with 60–80% from journal articles and the rest from books. At least 80% of references should be recent (within the last 10 years). Secondary sources should not exceed 15%. References should be formatted according to Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (Full Note) and categorized into: Books, Journal Articles, Theses/Dissertations, Websites, Interviews, etc. We recommend using reference managers such as Mendeley or Zotero .
Example citation style (Footnote – Full Note):
Author Name, Title (Place of Publication: Publisher, Year), page number.
Attachments
- Tables : Centered, with title above in Times New Roman 10 pt .
- Figures/Images : Centered, with title below in Times New Roman 10 pt . Image resolution must be at least 300 dpi .
- Arabic Transliteration : Follow the SKB Dua Menteri 1987 guidelines for Arabic-to-Latin transliteration (available upon request).
Final Steps
Upon acceptance, authors must complete and sign a copyright release form , which will be provided by the editorial team.
